More Beyond

More Beyond

In Valladolid, Spain, where Christopher Columbus died in 1506, stands a monument commemorating the great discoverer.  Perhaps the most interesting feature of the memorial is a statue of a lion destroying one of the Latin words that had been part of Spain’s motto for centuries.  Before Columbus made his voyages, the Spaniards thought they had reached the outer limits of earth.  Thus, their motto was “Ne Plus Ultra,” which means “No More Beyond.”

The word being torn away by the lion is “Ne” or “no,” making it read “Plus Ultra.”  Columbus had proven that there was indeed “more beyond.”  We must always remember there is “more beyond” when it comes to this life.  We will all live in eternity.  Listen to Matthew 25:46, “And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.”  Obviously, there is a big difference between “everlasting punishment’ and “life eternal.”

Please do not live as if this world is all there is.  The Bible plainly teaches there is “more beyond.”  We need Christ!  We need to be converted!  We need to go to heaven and not hell!

I urge you to obey the gospel of Christ and be faithful as a Christian.  Yes, there is “more beyond.”
