Christians must always strive to keep themselves pure or “unspotted from
the world” (James 1:27). The word “pure” in the Bible conveys the idea of
being cleansed or being free from contamination (II Timothy 2:22; Psalm
119:9). Aspects of the Christian’s life that must be pure are:
Their teachings (Titus 2:7)
Their heart (Psalm 24:4; Matthew 5:8; James 4:8)
Their everyday life (Proverbs 21:8)
Their motives (Philippians 1:17; Proverbs 16:2)
Their thoughts (Philippians 4:8).
A Christian can achieve and maintain a pure life by (1) Obeying God’s
word (Psalm 119:9, 11). (2) Practicing true Christianity on a daily basis
(James 1:27; Romans 12:2). When Christians, strive to live a pure life –
one not contaminated by the world – they can and will enjoy a happy life,
filled with heavenly blessings. For example, they will enjoy:
A closer relationship with God (James 4:8).
The goodness of God (Psalm 73:1).
Eternity with God (Matthew 5:8; Psalm 24:3,4).
