The apostle Paul said in II Corinthians 2:17, “For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God . . .” From this verse we see that there were many people in Paul’s day who were corrupting the word of God. I wonder what he would say today if he lived in America which is filled with religious division evidenced by over 1,000 churches. With the passing of centuries and the growth in population, the departure from God’s word has increased more and more. I am amazed that people believe they can do just about anything in the name of religion. This fact is vivid when you think about the killing and tormenting the Moslems do in the name of religion.
The words of Paul in II Corinthians 2:17 need to ring long and loud in our world today. Like Paul, we must not corrupt God’s word. Yes, many may be doing it, but Paul said, “. . . we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God . . .” What we need are people who believe God’s word and are not ashamed to stand where it stands. Homosexuality and lesbianism are trying to take over our society. It is unbelievable that some who claim to be religious do not believe this conduct is sinful. Paul, in speaking of the sinful practices of the gentiles, plainly condemned homosexuality and lesbianism in Romans I. Listen carefully to verses 26-27, “For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.” These statements should settle the matter.
Isaiah spoke some words a long time ago that plainly describe our situation today. He said, “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter” (Isaiah 5:20)! Isaiah was speaking of those who have their values all messed up. They were calling the evil good and the good evil. How true this is today!
I pray all of us will stand right where God’s word stands. We must respect it, study it and obey it. Don’t corrupt it; don’t bend it to fit your particular problem or situation; just do what it says. I promise you, you will be glad you did.
