Have You Spoken A Good Word Today?

Have You Spoken A Good Word Today?

Introduction: We read in Proverbs 12:25, “Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.”  Our words make all the difference in the world.  Jesus even said, “For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned” (Matthew 12:37).  One of the purposes of our lives should be to “speak good words to make hearts glad.”  Would you say this describes you on a daily basis?  Obviously, some are encouragers and some are discouragers.  It is also obvious that this is an area where we can all improve.  Let me make some suggestions:

  1. Speak a good word to your mate and make him or her glad to be married to you (Proverbs 5:18; 18:22; 31:12).
  2. Speak a good word to our elders and make them glad they are the overseers of such a wonderful congregation (I Thessalonians 5:12, 13).
  3. Speak a good word to our deacons and make them glad they are special servants of this congregation (I Timothy 3:13).
  4. Speak a good word to our teachers and make them glad for the privilege to teach (Isaiah 52:7; Romans 10:15).
  5. Speak a good word to our older members and make them glad because they are appreciated (Psalm 71:9).
  6. Speak a good word to our young people and make them glad because someone is proud of them (Isaiah 40:30, 31; Colossians 3:21).
  7. Speak a good word to God and make Him glad that we are His people (I Chronicles 29:10-13; Psalm 100:4, 5).

Conclusion: Get the idea!  Please remember that Barnabas was “the son of encouragement” (Acts 4:36).  I especially like what he did for John Mark (Acts 15:36-39).  Let’s be like him.  Yes, “good words make hearts glad.”
